  • "I am a 67-year-old woman who has been practicing Pilates for about six years, mostly on the apparatus with a trainer [Faith], currently two 30-minute sessions per week. I began doing it after about a 20-year hiatus of doing nothing more than walking, when I realized I was out of shape and moving like my 87-year-old mother (who was pretty crippled with osteoporosis and arthritis), although I was not overweight. I had had a bone density scan when I turned 60 which was normal. This year I had a second bone density scan, and the radiologist told me I had increased my bone density by 3%, which is not typical for women my age. It is the only type of workout I've found that I really enjoy, other than yoga, which I had to give up due to arthritis in my feet. I have certainly reached my goals of becoming stronger and improving my posture, and have fun doing it. Over the years I have worked with a number of teachers, and am still amazed and delighted at the variety of movements/exercises, which keeps me interested and far from being bored."
